Detective Services – Making the right choice
2023-01-03Detective services are hardly as exotic as they used to be. In fact, it is now one of the standard methods of obtaining information – and by that, I mean verified and certain information.
Until recently, the detective was a hero of crime novels and noire movies. But nowadays, they are employed in a plethora of standard legal proceedings – these are property matters, family problems, and even private investments, for instance – real estate. They are no longer just the stereotypical, panama-hat wearing daredevils, but professional people that are versed not only in forensic sciences, but also in psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and appliance of law in practice. They are also uniquely prepared in acquisition and verification of information from a wide variety of sources.
To make the right choice
Because it is precisely that – knowledge, experience, and skills, that are the real qualities of a detective.
Be it by being employed in the police or similar services, being a lawyer, acquiring diplomas from best universities, or quite simply accumulating years of experiences, detectives can be quite diverse. However, there are also some detectives, who – inspired by popular media, crime novels and American cinema, who in truth have very little experience to show for it, having at best found their neighbour’s cat. Therefore, when choosing a detective with whom we want to cooperate, we should conduct… our own little investigation, so to speak. Quite simply, we should examine the competences of the person whom we want to employ. First of all, I recommend contacting detective associations, and checking the publicly available register of detective companies, launched back in 2018 by the Ministry of the Interior. One should bear in mind that although there are several thousand detectives operating within our country, only a little over 2,000 of them are actually licensed detectives.
Education and Experience
First and foremost, it is worth checking whether our candidate has any legal education. But even still, while theoretical knowledge is valuable, it can only supplement the actual experience and expertise of the Polish law in practice. When selecting a detective, it is also important that their specific experience of, for example previous cases, can be related to whatever work we want to entrust them with – explains Wiesław Modrakowski, representative of the Expertus® (Law Office & Investigators), and honorary president of the Polish Federation of Detectives.
Take under account, that a reliable, experienced detective company will provide verified and well-documented information. It is very important, because due to how accessible information is nowadays, many people think that sitting in front of a computer screen for couple hours is enough to learn everything we need. And this is simply not true, because the internet is full of fake news and downright fabricated information that may lead us to wrong conclusions. And there is nothing worse than a decision made on basis of wrongful sources, consequences of which could be very costly.
